The Land Use By-Law for the Town of Shelburne Schedule "A" has been amended for PID# 80143563 on King St. which is currently zoned partial Residential (R-1) and partial Commercial (C-1) to be zoned fully
It was passed after 2nd reading by Town Council on May 18th, 2021.
The Nova Scotia Municipal Government Act provides for the right of appeal of this decision. Appeals must be made to the Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board (1-855-442-4448) or email firstname.lastname@example.org within fourteen (14) days of the publication of this notice.

Support for NS Businesses

The Nova Scotia Government announced additional support for Nova Scotia businesses hit hard by the pandemic and facing province-wide restrictions as a result of a third wave. Three programs – one new program and two previously announced – aim to help small business owners such as restaurants, spas, hotels, gyms and hair salons.
Businesses will be supported through rebates, with an immediate infusion of cash to hire staff, pay down debt or order supplies. Fees for businesses will also be deferred to help owners and operators during this period. Starting today, May 4, applications are open for the Tourism Accommodations Real Property Tax Rebate Program Part 2, announced in March. This program provides qualified operators with a 50 percent rebate on the first six months of commercial property tax paid in 2021-22.
Operators who received payments under the first Tourism Accommodations Real Property Tax Rebate Program will be automatically eligible as long as they are still the owners of the property. Applications will open the week of May 10 for the Small Business Real Property Tax Rebate Program, which was also announced in March.
Eligible businesses can receive a one-time rebate of a portion of their paid property taxes. They can choose a rebate of $1,000 or 50 percent of the commercial real property taxes paid for the final six months of the 2020-21 tax year.
The new Small Impact Business Grant Part 3 opens for applications this week to provide grants of up to $5,000 for Nova Scotia businesses directly affected by the April 2021 restrictions. Eligible businesses will receive a one-time grant of 15 percent of their sales revenue for the month of April 2019 or February 2020, up to a maximum of $5,000.For businesses established after March 15, 2020, the grant amount will be calculated as 15 percent of the sales revenue for any month from April 2020 to March 2021. The applicant can choose the month.

Hello to the citizens of the Town of Shelburne! We have turned the corner into 2021 with a positive outlook after experiencing a very challenging 2020. First I would like to say a huge THANK YOU to the residents of our Town for their diligence and commitment to dealing with the Pandemic as well as we have. The vaccine rollout is progressing smoothly, and I encourage everyone to get vaccinated when it becomes available - if it’s right for you!
On the financial front, the Town of Shelburne is anticipating a surplus for the fiscal year 2020-2021. Transferring this surplus into the Town’s Reserves will help to ensure our financial stability. The anticipated surplus will bring the Town’s reserves to approximately 70% of the recommended amount after the 2020-2021 budget has been audited. Good municipal governance requires an operating surplus, and I will emphatically say that financial stability is the number one priority of your new Town Council. A big Thank You goes out to the Town Staff for their constant commitment to achieving this goal. Your council has also chosen to ensure that improvements to child care facilities as a priority, focusing on renovating our current building.
Our Town could not function if it were not for the numerous and dedicated volunteers. To all, and there are many, a very big Thank You also. Our Town has experienced growth, and I would like to personally welcome numerous new residents to our small and friendly town. I wish you well with your new endeavours and hope that you will enjoy the slower pace and friendly atmosphere that our beautiful Town offers.
In closing, I would like to mention that the five municipal units of Shelburne County are now meeting on a monthly basis to discuss items of mutual interest to all residents of Shelburne County. In addition, the three municipal units of Eastern Shelburne County are cooperating on several fronts. Again, I thank you all for your support and assure you that your elected council and staff will continue to work hard to bring financial stability to our town to ensure a positive future.
